Critical Consciousness An Understanding Of Power,...

Critical Consciousness According to Lum (2007) critical consciousness â€Å"is a process through which people come to an understanding of power, empowerment, and oppression. Developing critical consciousness is a two-step process that involves learning to perceive social, political, and economic contradictions and action against oppressive elements†. Experiences throughout life assist in the multiple identities that people have. It is important to â€Å"understand people through their construction and enactment of their multiple identities† (Lum, 2007, p.48). In order to understand the diversity of a person, social workers need to: 1. Approach every interpersonal helping practice relationship with an awareness of who you are as a cultural self and what you have to offer as a helping person. 2. Equalize the power relationship between you as the professional worker and the client as the vulnerable individual so that you both become persons in the eyes of the other. 3. Find out what is similar and common between you as the worker and the person as the client and affirm the similarities and commonalities. 4. Explore the differences between the worker and the client, respecting and learning from them, and incorporate these unique features in the relationship. 5. Analysis My Life Had Stood a Loaded Gun Essay - 2511 Words

Emily Dickinson is a poet known for her cryptic, confusing language. Words are often put together in an unusual way and create deciphering difficulties for the reader. But behind all the confusion is a hidden meaning that becomes clear, and one realizes that all the odd word choices were chosen for a specific reason. The poem I will try to analyze is My Life Had Stood—A Loaded Gun, or number 754. I find this to be one of her most difficult poems to decode. However, I find the images fascinating and the last stanza very confusing but intriguing. What I first thought the poem was about and what I finally came to a conclusion on are two completely different thoughts. Through answering questions on the poem’s literary elements, thorough†¦show more content†¦In stanza two, the near rhyme is â€Å"And now We roam in Sovereign Woods—/And now We hunt the Doe—†, where the reader is able to detect the long ‘o’ in the two end words . In stanza three, the rhyme is in lines two and four: â€Å"†¦Upon the Valley glow—/It is as a Vesuvian face/Had let it’s pleasure through—†. The ‘oh’ sound in â€Å"glow† is mirrored with the longer ‘ooh’ in â€Å"through.† In stanza four, the near rhyme can be heard in lines one and three: â€Å"And when at Night—Our good Day done—/I guard My Master’s Head—/’Tis better than the Eider-Duck’s/Deep Pillow—to have shared—†. This near rhyme is more complex than previously mentioned rhymes, because the reader hears the rhyme of two sounds: â€Å"Day† in line one and â€Å"Eider† in line three are similar because of the ‘d’ and then a sharper-sounding vowel—an ‘a’ and an ‘e.’ Then, the words following, â€Å"done† and â€Å"duck,† respectively, also sound near to each other again because of the ‘d,’ but this time the duller, lower sounding vowel comes from the ‘o’ and ‘u.’ When â€Å"Day done† and â€Å"Eider-Duck† are read out loud, the reader can hear the double, almost alliteral sounds made from the repetitive ‘d’ and corresponding vowels. I found stanza five’s near rhyme to have some debate: â€Å"To foe of His—I’m deadly foe—/None stir the second time—/On whom I lay a Yellow Eye—/Or an emphatic Thumb—†. Initially, I thought the near rhyme could be heard with â€Å"time† and â€Å"thumb,†Show MoreRelatedAnalysis of Dickinsons Poem, My Life had Stood a Loaded Gun631 Words   |  3 Pagesâ€Å"My Life had stood – a Loaded Gun† In the poem, â€Å"My Life had stood – a Loaded Gun,† published around 1863, Emily Dickinson effectively uses metaphorical language in making the speaker compare him/her self to a loaded gun. The story draws a line to post modernism by providing a picture of a family trying to fool the world into thinking that they are happy, when the truth is that they are not. It is far more important to appear happy than being so. One of the themes is definitely the single mother with a career, trying to make her family work. It is also a story about separated parents, where the communication is the one that suffers in that process and therefore is the one that does not work. There’s Flora who choose the Light green dress. I Think the dress means Happy and loved. Because when she found the dress she finally saw herself prettier than Rachel. And also when she went with her Italian friend and he confirmed that she had slim and long legged. There’s also the blue silk dress. Flora feel confident because blue is a royal color and royalty is often equalized with good manners and perfect appearance. And the other symbol is when Rachel wears a black dress with red earrings. The color was chosen to show the anger and the hate she feels for her sister. I think Red symbolizes rage and anger, and black symbolizes death or hatred. Compare / Contrast Baseball Essay ENG 4AOJanuary 19, 2000Compare/Contrast EssayBaseball a true American game and past time that has been part of our lives from the beginning. It has stood the test of time simply because of its purity and infinite list of players that have ffostered the game to what it is today. Yet a single blemish remains that took place in 1919 when the World Series was thrown by eight players including Shoeless Joe Jackson. Shoeless Joe Jackson who last played major league baseball in 1920 and was suspended for life, along with seven of his compatriots, by Commissioner Mountain Landis, for his part in throwing the 1919 World Series Kinsella (6,7). Many of Shoeless Joes greatest fans including Ray Kinsella were deeply saddened to hear the news that their hero would no longer be playing baseball. The name Kenesaw Mountain Landis became synonymous with the devil Kinsella (7). In the novel Shoeless Joe by W.P Kinsella and the movie Field of Dreams by Phil Alden Robinson differ in terms of relationship s, characters, and are similar in plot, and have majical content. In each of the works the relationships between the charaters are contrasted. In the novel Annie was very supportive of her hard working husband Ray who rantheir farm. When Ray told Annie that he had heard voices in the field she was interested in what he had heard. The words Ray heard were If you build it he will come Kinsella (5). He could not believe what he was hearing. At first he thought he was dreaming. Ray knew the voice meant something about the baseball field. When he informed Annie about his dream she gave him her blessings and encouraged ray one hundred percent. In the movie however Annies perception of her husbands aspirations differed greatly. When Ray suggested the idea to Annie, she thought he was crazy and out of his mind. They had worked so hard to establish their farm that she did not want to give it up for such a risk. In the movie Annie was portrayed some of the characteristics that he brother Mark had shown in the novel. The relationship between Ray and the voice also differ between the two works. In the novel the novel Ray was instantly a ble to interpert what the voice was telling him. In the movie however Ray had a difficult time at first in finding out the intentions of the voice. What are you trying to tell me Robinson. These relationships were changed from the novel to the movie. there are many characters in the novel that have been deleated or altered for consumer purposes. In the novel J.D Salinger played a prominate role in Rays journey. The producer was unable to get permission from J.D Salinger to use his name in the film. Insted the film makers created a fictional character Terrance mann, an African American who allowed the movie to appeal to a broader range of ethnic groups. The novel also had two very important characters, Richard kinsella who was Rays twin brother and Eddie Scissons who had previously owned their farm. Richard Kinsella is my identical twin brother Kinsella (33). Thesecharacters were completly deleated in the movie Field of Dreams. This was perhaps to prevent complicating the plot. The writters had to allow the script to flow easily enough so that a general audience would understand. Therefore many changes were made to the characters. The main plot in both of the works Field of Dreams and Shoeless Joe were identical. Ray was sent on a journey by the voice to allow others to live out their dreams. Ray decided to accept the challenge to build a baseball field inorder toallow eight suspended baseball players to fulfill their destiny. Id have played free worked for food Kinsella (13). Shoeless Joes remark prove how dedicated and aspired he was to the game. In Field of Dreams as well as Shoeless Joe Rays real reason for building the field was to bring his father back. If you build ot he will come Kinsella (5). These words spoken by the voice were intended for Rays father John to come. The plot in each of the works is very similar. .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015 , .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015 .postImageUrl , .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015 , .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015:hover , .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015:visited , .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015:active { border:0!important; } .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015:active , .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015 .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u5295e674917d146512dcd553032d4015:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Shakes EssayIn each of the works

Terms Of Contract Towards Local Livestock -Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Terms Of Contract Towards Local Livestock? Answer: Introducation The postal rule is a part of contract law which describe the terms of contract for the acceptance of an offer has communicated through any posting rules like email or phone or letter for establish a legally binding contract between the two parties. Another term under the posting rule is when an offer has been given by host or letters it will not effective until another person received the letter but as soon as it has been received and the acceptance will take place the contract effective from that moment. When the contract want to be repeat revocation therefore it is should be received by the party for making the offer before they send a post the letter of acceptance. In the case of Tallerman Co Pty Ltd v Nathan's Merchandise (1957) the court has found the rule of posting rules of the contract but it is not completed until the offers should be accepted by the party through the communication of a letter or email. Therefore a contract is not formed until and unless the posting of a letter of acceptance cannot able to justified by the offer when it could be contemplated and intended to application of such acts (McKendrick, 2014). Brinkibon v Stahag Stahl und Stahlwarenhandelsgessellschaft mbH House of Lords [1983] is another case of Postal rules where the plaintiff has take legal action against the offering for breach of contract and according to the application of the postal rule in this case has not formed but instead of it a general contract has been formed. In another case Bressan v Squires Supreme Court of New South Wales [1974] the application of posting rules has been applied because the parties have communicate through using mails for the formation of the contract. Adam v Lindsell [1818] is one of the most significant cases of the postal rule where it has first applied in this case. The court has found that a contract has been formed through a mail between the parties where both of having common intention and accept the offer but later the acceptance could not be determined. Therefore plaintiff has take legal action against the defendant for causing lots of problem and breach the terms of Postal rule of acceptance. In the cases of Entores Ltd v Miles Far East Corpn (1955) and Holwell securities Ltd v Hughes (1974) the same transaction of postal rules has been establishes through the communication in relation to the acceptance by the parties (McKendrick, 2014). Application The postal rule has one of the important part in the contract law where it has been found the one of the quickest form of business communication through the post services under the contract law. There are several forms of communication which define most fastest way of Communications like telex, phone, message and email. Through the postal rule the contract has been formed under the basic terms of contract which includes offer and acceptance, consideration, capacity to contract, legal intention and certainty. The postal rule is a part of contract law which describe the terms of contract for the acceptance of an offer has communicated through any posting rules like email or phone or letter for establish a legally binding contract between the two parties. Including this features it also made some rules which are the offer which has been given through the postal letter should not effective until it has been received by the other party or the offer after the acceptance of the offer. It wi ll effective from that moment and form a legal contract between two parties. For the effectiveness of revocation the contract should be formed and the offer which has been received by the offered person before they post the letter to the acceptance. The fact of the case is FramOnline Pty Ltd has run a business of sale of beef cattle to a firm called Local Livestock Seller. They send a letter to the local seller for selling a beef kettle in total which price should be paid $1,500 and asked to reply to accept this offer. The local seller has replied back where they want to drop the price and make it $1,200 per head. However again the FramOnline Pty Ltd reply them that they are not able to less the price not more than about $1,400 per head for a beef kettle. However they did not get any reply from them. After few days the local seller has replied them that they want they accept the offer but in meanwhile the FramOnline replied by back saying they are not interested to make the business and they also entered into the process of selling the cattle to another purchaser. Therefore as per the terms of contract the FramOnline Pty Ltd has breached the terms of contract and the local seller has rights to take legal steps against them (McKe ndrick, 2014). The basic five elements of a contract are: offer and acceptance which defines that it should be an offer and other party will accept the offer which form agreement between two parties the consideration switch stated that the contract has been made in the exchange of money or any property between the two parties the capacity to contract define the parties who are entitled to enter into the contract should be capable to form the contact which includes that they must be sound mind and complete the age of minority the legal intention define that the purpose of the agreement should create a legal intention for formation of an agreement where a legal relationship will be established between the two parties The certainty defines where the contract has been se formed for a particular of time and must be completed under the terms of the contract. In the postal rules a contract can be formed through a medium of communication which would be email, letter or phone. Therefore as per the terms of contract and postal rules a contract has been satisfying the terms of contract where make an offer to another party which satisfied the term of capacity legal intension and certainty. Therefore according to the first letter of FramOnline Pty Ltd which was sent to the local seller that they want to form the contact by accept the offers on 14 October but before the acceptance of the offer both of the parties has bargain about the business material and on the date of 14th October the local seller has accept the final offer. Therefore contract has been formed but before the acceptance FramOnline Pty Ltd has breached the terms and from another contract with different purchaser. Therefore they breach the terms of contract. According to the terms of the postal rule the effectiveness of the contract has applicable when the acceptance has been communicated through a mode of communication. Therefore it is defining the basic rule of the agreement for the communication of acceptance is received. When a letter has been post therefore an offer has been given and reply to the letter to the offer make the acceptance of the offers (McKendrick, 2014). In the case of Adam v Lindsell [1818] the postal rule has first decided by the court. In this case the defendant has posted a letter to the plaintiff by offering to sell some wool and requested to reply the acceptance of the offer to the post. However the letter which has been posted by the defendant has gone to a wrong address and plaintiff didnt make any knowledge about the letter. Therefore due to the misrepresentation the defendant did not get any reply from plaintiff and they sold the wool to a third party. Therefore the court has raises the question whether the contract has any effectiveness due to the arrived of the letter to the address and they sell the wool to the third party. Therefore there is no reason to revocation of the offers. Therefore in this case there was a contract has exist before the sale of the wool to the third party even though the letter has not received by the defendant but the defendant was liable to breach the contract. Therefore as per the terms of contract FramOnline Pty Ltd has breach the contract with the local seller while selling the cattle to the third party. Though they do not have any knowledge about the acceptance by the first party of the offer but while selling it to third party it make a contract and FramOnline Pty Ltd has breach the terms of contract towards the Local Livestock Seller (McKendrick, 2014). Conclusion As per the case study it can be concluded that due to the breach of the terms of contract the local seller can take legal action against FramOnline Pty Ltd for selling the beef cattle to the third party.
